What smackhead decided that a logitudnially mounted FWD Big Block was a good idea?

My kind of smackhead, that’s what.

another terrible great idea...

1. buy a Toronado

2. swap axles/engine location

3. have a RWD rear engined toronado

4. hoon

I know these were always FWD, but what was the original engine that came in it?

You, sir, have that slightly mixed up. See, the correct order is:

1. Buy a Toronado

2. Buy a wrecked DeVille

3. Swap DeVille drivetrain into back of Toronado

4. Have AWD twin-engined Toronado

5. Hoon

425 Super Rocket V8. After two years that became a 455.

The ‘66 is the best looking one, and this one isn’t a total rust write-off, AND it runs. So sick.

I prefer the egg crate grille on the ‘67, but whatever.

Sex of one, hnng a dozen of the other. The most important thing is the blade pontoons and the lights - gotta have em. You get the option of front discs on the ‘67 too, so there’s that.

I need to... like... inherit $80k with the stipulation that it can’t be spent more than $8k at a time. So many amazing things.

You know, $3500 goes a long way to building a Rover V8.

Okay, YOU buy the FWDPOWEARHUEHUEHUEBOAT. Can’t leak worse than the Audi.

Well, owning a piece of VW history that could have been built by the Pennsylvania Dutch in certain places may have advantages.

I’ll get back to you on what those are, though.

Me too. For things like this horrible but good idea, which I found yesterday:

Kinja'd!!!

I sold the Fairlane back to the guy I bought it from last weekend, and had that money burning in my pocket as I walked around this. So hard. It’s pretty rusty around the windows and roof, but it’s a 260 and the interior is much better than the Fairlane’s was, blue vinyl.

Wow. 260 wagons are pretty rare. Not as rare as the 260 Rancheros or the 260 convertibles, but pretty dang rare. You do need some kind of old iron DD, though. Maybe a Mercury, this time.

Actually I have a buddy with a really straight ‘63 Comet available, but it’s a bit more money. Might talk to him about it once I sell my wife’s old 325.

Talking of old 3ers, there’s an E30 for sale here in town at the local import repair shop that was listed for ages at $1500, and has just dropped to $900 OBO. It looks straight, but it could have all kinds of Danger-Will-Robinson going on. I don’t *need* a 3er, but it’s interesting to drive past.

They’re great cars, but can easily consume the purchase price in parts if something big is wrong.

Two batteries? I’m not aware of this. What are you referring to?

Kinja'd!!!0

There was a model of ElDorado from around that time (the Bearcat I think) running the 500cui engine that required two batteries. I could look it up, but I’m relying on hazy memories of my uncle’s car that was set up like that instead.

To give some perspective: I ran an autotempest search for Toronados within 400 miles of me, and THIS IS THE ONLY ONE. They’re getting hard to find, but they’re still in the rare-but-not-murderously expensive pocket. This could be the best deal on one of these you see for a while, maybe ever. Or not, but how are you going to find the one in a local newspaper classified somewhere?

Interesting. I ran a 500” motor for many years and never needed another battery. Although some limos would have gotten an additional battery - those and ambulances and such had an optional battery tray, but they weren’t eldorados, more like Sedan Deville and Fleetwoods, etc. The cars that needed it had a larger alternator with different alternator brackets too. I got my 500” from a ‘76 Fleetwood Brougham (extended cabin) and it had the large alternator, but only one battery. I did run dual batteries in my ‘86 Suburban, but that was how it came factory (HD fleet vehicle). (I had the 500” cad motor in the ‘burb for a while)

Certainly not here in Belgium. But there are a few back in Indianapolis around.
